Off to Get the Giant Back Shot

I suddenly remembered there were ceilings to be primed...

Today, I'm going to get an epidural and steroid shots for my Stupid Back. I'm sceeeered. I can't drink anything, and I'm thirsty. I can't eat anything, and I'm hungry. I have to go get in the shower now and wash myself with antibacterial soap. At least I'm allowed to brush my teeth, too. Oh, and I get to wear "loose clothing" to the hospital, so I will be venturing out in the comfiest of comfy pants. Too bad for Dr. Back that I didn't shave my legs.

I have to be there an hour ahead of time to get juiced up. I'm hoping the twilight sleep will actually knock me the f*ck out so I can not notice the GIANT NEEDLE.

[Randomly, there are three giant black crows right outside my window talking to each other. Man, crows are HUGE.]

I'm not so much afraid of the needle as I am "things going in my spinal column." It's so unnerving. I'd like to keep that part of my body permanently sealed. But then again, if this procedure keeps me from feeling back pain for a loooooong time, it will be worth it -- even the out-of-pocket chunk of cash that they called to tell me about.

*hemorrhages more money*

So yeah, I'm kind of freaking out. And I'm stalling. It's time to get in the shower. Here I go.

The epidural needle does not hurt, do not look at it if you can avoid it. Take slow deep breaths, hold still and close yer freakin' eyes. It's a don't look down kind of thing . You will be fine!

Booooo for back pain. When I had my epidural for labor, I wanted to punch the guy because he was telling me to breath and hold still while contractions were ripping me apart. I sedated myself by imagining crazy things. :D I hope it goes well for you. And, ditto to what April said: CLOSE YER DAMN EYES!!!!!!

I hated the guy who administered my epidural almost 15 years ago - until I loved him after it kicked in and the pain went away. I hope the pain goes away for you for a long, long time.

You are all fantastic! I did NOT feel the needle go in, but I did feel some pressure. Luckily, I was super high. :) I felt the steroid go all the way down my leg to my foot, but it was only for a second. Good times! Also, I was facing the wall on my tummy, so I didn't see anything until I asked to see the image of it afterward. Spine + Huge Needle = Fascinating
