A Dollhouse Observatory

Ah, it feels good to be creative. I entered the Greenleaf Dollhouses Spring Fling 2009 contest. Yes, there is a huge part of me that wants to WIN WIN WIN, but I also must admit that it felt good to just make the thing even if I don't win.

This is the Observatory. It's modeled off of this and this. You can see Ginger sitting behind the telescope. You remember Ginger? I also must give props to Pa for providing the aluminum wrapping (which HURTS when you poke yourself on the edges while snipping) and the copper pipe, which he cut and then welded a washer I found to the end of to make the telescope:

Ginger is checkin' out the stars even though it's daylight. Behind her is a poster of Galileo. You can't see the shelving behind her, but it holds her tools to tinker with the telescope. On the floor, you can see her cluster of papers and a Manila folder. Jim's Printies rocks!

Downstairs, we have her desk, some space stuff, a newspaper on the chair, and Van Gogh's "Starry Night." There is also a small astronaut sitting on the bookshelf:

The outer shell is one piece of aluminum, a small piece for the other end, and one piece for the roof. The roof wouldn't stay glued down very well, but I lost patience trying to keep it in place:

Look UP!

Special thanks to Pa--I never would have finished it without you and your metal snipping. I'll always remember our tool tinkering time together. And special thanks to Ma for letting me take over her table for the afternoon and not freaking about the paint.

It is awesome! A relative who loves ponds suggested you use a glue gun to keep the roof together if it separates.
